Propecia works on the main cause of hair loss by significantly reducing the amount of DHT. DHT is a a chemical that shrinks the hair follicle until no hair grows. Propecia actually inhibits the formation of DHT in your scalp. Lowering DHT inhibits the further shrinking of affected hair follicles. Propecia regrows visible hair and reduces further hair loss.

Should You Try To Stop Hair Loss With Propecia? « Find ...

If you are experiencing hair loss, you may have already paid a visit to your local pharmacy in search of a remedy. While there you might have found yourself in an aisle with shelf after shelf of creams, ointments, shampoos, sprays, fungicides, and vitamin or herbal supplements all claming that they could stop your hair from thinning further. Some of them may have indicated they could even re-grow your missing hair.

In spite of what you may have seen on the pharmacy shelves, or on late-night infomercials, there are only two medications which have been FDA-approved, and which doctors routinely prescribe, as treatments for hair loss--minoxidil and finasteride. And of these, the more commonly prescribed is finasteride, in the pill form Propecia.

It is possible to stop hair loss with Propecia because male pattern baldness has been closely connected to an imbalance of the hormone dihydroxytestosterone, or DHT. DHT is created when the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme interacts with testosterone; researchers were able to stop hair loss with Propecia, which inhibited the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme and kept DHT from forming. In other works, they were able to stop hair loss with Propecia by intervening in the testosterone-enzyme-DHT cycle.

When Propecia was tested on a group of men suffering from mild or moderate androgenic alopecia, some of the men saw hair growth after only three months; and eventually 86% of them experienced re-growth of thinning hair. Over 90% of the men had no additional hair loss for the two years of the study, so the researchers had managed both to stop hair loss with Propecia and to re-grow hair in a majority of the study's subjects.

While attempting to stop hair loss with Propecia has produced minor sexual side effects in less than 2% of the men using it, Propecia is considered safe for adult men. Women, however, should not try to stop hair loss with Propecia; it is known to cause birth defects.

STAY AWAY FROM THE DRUG PROPECIA!!!

I used this drug for 6-months back in 2000 and suffered PERMANENT SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION!

This nightmare has occured to many other men. Some of whom have since committed SUICIDE!

Don’t believe the study-numbers being “pushed” by Merck. Those bastards lied right through their fucking teeth about the safety of this drug.

If you have hairloss, just use an anti-dandruff shampoo and take high-dose saw-palmetto.

2010 Winter Games: U.S. skeleton athletes Zach Lund, Noelle Pikus-Pace looking ...

Picture the heartbreaking visual: In 2006, Lund is the top-ranked skeleton athlete in the world. He has qualified for his first Olympics. He is in his room in Turin, Italy, an hour before the opening ceremonies, his Team USA outfit laid out on the bed, like a kid getting ready for the first day of school. One of his managers knocks on the door to speak to him.

They go outside. Two team members looking sharp in full Team USA gear pass by him. The coach tells him he's been removed from the U.S. Olympic team for testing positive for a banned substance. He is now a drug cheat. He is instructed to leave the Olympic village immediately. He is no longer an Olympian. The outfit never gets worn.

The banned substance was not human growth hormone or stanozolol or some other muscle-building performance-enhancer, but Propecia, the hair restoration drug. Zach Lund, always self-conscious about his hair since he was a teenager, was essentially kicked off the Olympic team for trying to cover a bald spot.

U.S. Skeleton Team Wants to Erase Ghosts of Turin

Lund is here for his first Olympics, although it should be his second. He qualified for the Turin Olympics four years ago, but was disqualified from competition after testing positive for finasteride, which can be used as a masking agent for steroids. The test was triggered by ingesting Propecia, an anti-balding medication , instead of any attempt to cheat.

Officials have removed finasteride from its banned list, further vindicating Lund, but also fueling his bitterness.

After questioning his motivation, Lund decided to rededicate himself to the sport.

“I was becoming a victim and I had to change that to become a victor,” Lund said.

At the Turin Olympics, an uneasy cloud hovered over the team . Lund’s removal from the team coincided with the expulsion of Coach Tim Nardiello , who was accused of sexual harassment by some of the national team members. Noelle Pikus-Pace’s Olympics hopes were dashed in a freak accident when a runaway bobsled careened into her in Calgary. The crash shattered her right leg, leaving her without enough time to qualify for the Turin Games.

Don't Always Blame The Propecia

What can happen is that men using Propecia are overly concerned about the sexual side effects and thus they can suffer from anxiety about a possible erectile failure which in itself greatly increases the chances of a problem. Practically all men at some point suffer from an incidence of erectile dysfunction which is often linked to stress, performance anxiety, drinking too much or other psychological influences.

If you’re using Propecia and it is working effectively it would be a shame to stop using it because of a perceived link to erectile dysfunction. You need to check whether the erectile problem was just a one off occasion linked to some other influence rather than directly because of the Propecia. Be aware also that other medications like antidepressants also cause sexual side effects and thus they could be to blame.

If you have been using Propecia for some time with no problems and then you suddenly experience a bout of erectile dysfunction there is a very good chance that the Propecia is not the culprit. The important thing is not to panic and to try and remove the stress from situation. Going for run and relaxing is often a far more effective cure for erectile dysfunction than Viagra , Cialis or Levitra .
